The fight was fought in Dhauli, where Ashoka had a particular weakness. It is reported that the Daya river turned scarlet with the blood of the countless people who died in the conflict, making Ashoka aware of the horrors of war. He made sure that Dhauli developed into a significant hub for Buddhist activity. There, he erected numerous stupas, pillars, and chaityas. He had places dug out for the recluses, authorities’ instructions engraved, the public taught the fundamentals of dandaniti, and his new realm, which included the stupas at Dhauli, was given special status.
The Japan Buddha Sangha and the Kalinga Nippon Buddha Sangha constructed a brilliant white peace pagoda atop the hill in the 1970s.
